Me and my wife and three children stayed in the Barracuda apartment for two weeks in February 2011. We had a very nice time and the apartment suited us just fine. So this coming winter we are coming back for another two weeks.
The house is situated in a quiet area where ordinary canarians live. If you are looking for a price worthy apartment in an area far from the tourist crowds but still close to the sea, this is the place to stay! The owner couple are very nice people who are helpful and make you feel both welcome and at ease. The Barracuda flat is almost new and very clean. Everything is in good shape and the kitchen is fully equipped with all the utilities one needs included a fridge, stove with oven and a microwave You need to be able to walk stairs as the Barracuda is an unusual four storey apartment where the rooms become smaller the higher you get. Actually the top floor is just a shelf with one bed. There is no sea view from the house (apart from the terrace on the roof which has a splendid view of the Atlantic although the terrace can be quite windy at times) but as soon as you get out of the house and turn the corner the sea is in full view From the house it is just a few minutes walk and you can dip your toes in the Atlantic. Here is also the starting point for the Arinaga beach walk which stretches 2 kilometres and half with Arinaga on the one side and the sea on the other. Here you can quietly stroll along, stop for a swim or a meal at one of the restaurants by the sea. There are very few tourists to be seen, if any. Here canarian grannies with their grandchildren are much more common and the whole atmosphere is friendly and easy going. There is a bus stop just round the corner with buses taking you around the island, e.g. Las Palmas. But we recommend a car if you want to easily move around the island and use your time efficiently. You can park the car just outside your front door. Arinaga has lots of shops and restaurants. If you have a car you can go to the enormous Atlantico shopping center about 10-15 minutes drive away. In spite of its size the Atlantico is a rather pleasant place for shopping. But shopping is not the main reason for coming to Gran Canaria. This coming winter will be our sixth trip to the island and we expect to explore new interesting places as well as returning to some of the lovely spots we keep going back to. We stayed in “Barracuda” for 2 weeks in January 2012 and had a great time. Gauthier was very helpful and the flat was exactly as shown in the pictures. It is ideally placed for the town and beach and it was good to be able to park outside without any problem.
The coast is rocky, which made the water clear, and the local beach was never crowded. Swimming was good, especially when the tide was high. Driving was easy and it was useful to have transport to explore the island and visit the tourist areas. Arinaga is a busy little town which seems unaffected by foreign tourism and Spanish was the only language we heard. All the waterfront bars and restaurants are recommended. For a quiet holiday away from the normal tourist areas this was ideal. Ashley and Julie, Denmark January-12
Arinaga and the Barracuda apartment is well worth coming back to. After having stayed in the Barracuda for two weeks in February 2011 we were back again for Christmas the same year. Now we have found our perfect place to stay when we go to Arinaga and we will.
Before arriving in Arinaga for the first time I worried about things not turning out the way they seemed to be on the web. Now I can just conclude that the apartment is functional for a family of five and the impressions I got from the web coincides with what I found on arrival. And besides, Gauthier Dubois and his family are super people with a strong ambition to give their guests a good time. Gauthier knows the island as his back pocket and can give his guests "inside" information about beauty spots and other places to go which you will never get from the tourist office. The only reason we might have for not recommending the Barracuda is that we would like to keep it for ourselves so to speak.:) Jón and Anita Sigtryggsson Stockholm February-12
We stayed at the Angelot appartment for a week in February 2012. The apartment is situated in the basement part of the house. It's clean, has basic decoration, and there is everything you need for your stay!
We met Virginia, one of the owners, who was very nice and made sure everything was ok. The only downside was that it was sometimes a bit cold inside, but then again, it was pretty fresh outside as well, according to Canarian standards. (18°C) Arinaga is a small, authentic town. No big buildings, no big menus translated in English or German: the perfect place if you are looking for some real Canarian piece of life. There is a boardwalk along the coast taking you to the center of the village in a 10-15min walk. There are a couple of restaurants and shops. I can recommend Bar Al Timon for their lovely breakfasts and coffees! Don't be put off when coming from the airport, you'll have to drive through ugly industrial landscapes, but a short distance (15min drive) away is the pretty, charming town of Aguimes and the beautiful Barranco de Guayadeque. Easy access to the highway to get you to other parts of the island. Briefly, nice place if you are looking for a quiet holiday in a non-spoilt Canarian village. Mathieu, France. February-12
We are family with 2 small kids ( 3 years old and 16 months old) from Finland stayed in Arinaga for 6 weeks in Barracuda and 2 days in Angelot (February and March 2012). The owners were very helpfull and nice people . It made things alot easier that they lived next door and were always ready to help.
We liked Arinaga much more than Playa de Ingles. In Arinaga you can live normal family life with children and not in a crazy turist place. The people in the village are nice, food is cheap, nice lagoon beach and very nice promenade by the beach made us happy. Arinaga is a bit windier place than Playa del Ingles, but it did not bother us , we spent days in the lagoon beach with children and there was no wind and the wind actually was welcome as it cooled down us a bit :) The both flats are nice. Actually we liked Angelot alot , as we have children it was more convienient that it was on one level. It was sunnier, causy and somewhat warmer. The sun came from the windows and the wooden floor gave really warm and causy feeling. Next time we will stay in Angelot. Laine, Ismo, Marko, Arno Finland. March-12
If you are looking for a relaxing holiday, then this is what you may be looking for. Arinaga is splendid and the location of the bungalow is ideal as the amazing Dunes and the airport are few minutes away.
Gauthier was extremely helpful and due to his local knowledge, we were able to go to places that guides do not mention. The House (Angelot): It is very spacious, quiet, clean and it contains everything that you need for your cooking. All appliances are included. Also, Arinaga is less touristic, which was ideal for us. The shops are for the local and it is reasonably priced. In short, if you are looking for a nice place to stay, without breaking your purse, then this is the right place for you and your family. We highly recommend this place and we will stay there without hesitation in the near future. Thank you Gauthier, Shanil & Sebastien London April-12 |
